The MEZCAL, whose origins date back to colonial times in Mexico. Indeed, the word MEZCAL comes from the Nahuatl words “mexcalli”, which means “cooked maguey”, and in turn comes from the words “metl” which means “maguey” and “ixcalli” which means “cooked”. The drink had its origin in the State of Oaxaca.
When the Spanish managed to distill the drink through copper stills, and its use became very popular among the indigenous population of the region, qualifying it as “THE DRINK OF THE GODS”, since they attributed powers of illumination and approach to the deities, drinking it equally by men and women in ritual, civil or social activities; in baptisms, weddings and funerals and to bless the cornfield.
